U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th district in Congress, has recently used his social media platform to advocate for legislative action on childcare affordability and healthcare coverage. In a series of posts between July 27 and July 29, 2025, Khanna highlighted the financial burdens facing American families and called for support of his proposed bills.
On July 27, Khanna addressed the high cost of childcare compared to college tuition: “For an infant, childcare costs $22,000 annually. Tuition for a state college costs on average $8,786 annually. This is unsustainable for families. Congress has to pass my bill to offer care at $10/day while paying employees at least $24/hour.”
The following day, he commented on healthcare access in light of recent legislative developments: “82% of uninsured Americans say it’s difficult to afford healthcare. The Republican spending bill just took health insurance away from 11.8M Americans. We need to make sure our constituents can afford quality care. We need to pass Medicare for All.”
On July 29, Khanna referenced public opinion regarding tax policy and reiterated his push for affordable childcare: “Seven in ten Americans say they’d support increasing the child tax credit. Working and middle-class parents want change. Let’s pass my bill that will offer childcare for $10/day while paying workers at least $24/hour.”
Khanna has served as the representative for California’s 17th district since replacing Mike Honda in 2017 (https://khanna.house.gov/about). He was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. His educational background includes a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
