Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district, frequently addresses economic matters in his public communications. On April 29, 2025, Khanna turned his attention to the impact of certain economic policies on consumer goods prices, particularly following actions taken during the Trump administration.
On that date, Khanna noted that “Eggs have reached a record high of $6.23 per dozen, up 26% since Trump took office, gutted the USDA’s bird flu response, and increased tariffs on imports egg suppliers rely on.”
Continuing his focus on the rise in prices, Khanna stated “Trump’s First 100 Days: Prices of eggs, chicken breast, ground beef, coffee, and avocados are all way up. Here are the details:” in another tweet posted the same day.
Khanna further elaborated on the state of commodities like coffee, explaining that “Coffee has increased by 61% since the last month of Trump’s first term, now costing $7.39 per pound of ground roast. 99% of coffee consumed by Americans is imported; Trump’s new 10% tariffs on coffee imports will directly translate to even more expensive morning routines for” Americans, spotlighting the impact of tariff changes on imported goods.
Ro Khanna, who has been serving in Congress since replacing Mike Honda in 2017, was born in Philadelphia in 1976, grew up in Pennsylvania, and currently resides in Fremont. He holds a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
