U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who serves California’s 17th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on August 29, 2025, addressing recent factory closures and job losses in American manufacturing.

In one post, Khanna wrote: “Sixty-seven people were left jobless as Milwaukee, Wisconsin, steel forge Milwaukee Forge LLC shut down. We must bring back American steel and iron manufacturing and invest in modern factories by passing my Steel Modernization Act.” The same day, he noted the broader impact of factory shutdowns: “This week, 250 Americans lost their manufacturing jobs as three factories closed.” He further commented on the ongoing decline of industrial employment: “Week by week, plant by plant, the erosion of America’s industrial base continues as factories close their doors and communities lose the jobs that sustained them.”

Khanna has represented California’s 17th District since 2017 after succeeding Mike Honda. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, Khanna holds degrees from the University of Chicago (BA) and Yale University (JD).
