Representative Ro Khanna, who has served California’s 17th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed issues of lobbying influence, healthcare costs, and government transparency through a series of posts on his social media account.
On July 24, 2025, Khanna criticized the oil and gas industry’s political spending: “Oil and gas has spent $38M lobbying Congress just in the beginning of 2025 — pushing Washington further in the pocket of the ultra-wealthy while ordinary Americans continue to be fleeced by Big Oil. We need to limit PAC and lobbying spending and untie the unholy alliance between”.
Later that day, he commented on public sentiment regarding political accountability: “Americans want representatives that are going to clean up corruption & push for elite accountability. It was great talking with @ArianFoster and @PFTCommenter on @MacrodosingPod about why we need the Epstein files released.”
On July 25, Khanna turned his attention to healthcare policy: “Due to cuts to ACA, Americans on the healthcare plan will pay 75% more next year. Our goal should be to make healthcare more affordable, not rip it away from millions of Americans. It’s past time we pass Medicare for All.”
Khanna is known for advocating reforms related to campaign finance and access to healthcare. He has consistently called for limiting Political Action Committee (PAC) contributions and lobbying expenditures as part of broader efforts toward government reform.
Representing California’s Silicon Valley region since replacing Mike Honda in 2017, Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. He holds degrees from both the University of Chicago (BA) and Yale University (JD).
