Representative Ro Khanna, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th District since 2017, recently commented on several key national issues through his social media posts. Khanna, a Philadelphia native and Yale Law School graduate currently residing in Fremont, addressed topics ranging from workforce reductions to federal research funding and healthcare policy.
On July 12, 2025, Khanna highlighted recent layoffs at Barrette Outdoor Living’s Egg Harbor City facility in New Jersey. He stated that “Barrette Outdoor Living laid off 120 employees after deciding to phase out paint line operators in its Egg Harbor City, New Jersey facility.”
Later the same day, Khanna criticized cuts to federal research grants under the Trump administration. In his post he said, “The National Cancer Institute was a global leader in innovation and scientific research. Now, the Trump administration has cut at least 172 research grants. We need to reinstate funding and continue research that will help ordinary Americans.”
On July 13, 2025, Khanna expressed concern over proposed reductions to Medicaid funding and their impact on rural healthcare access. He wrote that “The over $1 trillion cuts to Medicaid places more than 300 rural hospitals across the country at risk of closure. Americans don’t need billionaires to get another tax break. They need expanded, affordable, quality healthcare.”
Khanna succeeded Mike Honda in Congress and has been an advocate for science funding and healthcare accessibility throughout his tenure.
