Rep. Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, recently addressed various issues through his social media posts. Known for his advocacy on health care reform and campaign finance transparency, Khanna shared insights on these topics via Twitter.
On May 5, 2025, Rep. Khanna extended his congratulations to Rear Admiral Susan Blumenthal, MD (ret.), for being awarded the Knight (Chevalier) of the Legion of Honor by France. He highlighted her contributions by stating: “Congratulations Rear Admiral Susan Blumenthal, MD (ret.) for receiving the Knight (Chevalier) of the Legion of Honor — France’s highest recognition for military and civilian achievement.” He acknowledged her impact on American policy and scientific research.
In a post dated May 6, 2025, Khanna drew attention to medical debt in America. He remarked that “In 2022, one in six hospitalized Americans had over $250 in medical debt.” He advocated for legislative action by mentioning his collaboration with Senator Bernie Sanders to eliminate medical debt: “It’s time we fix this broken system and pass my bill with @SenSanders to erase medical debt.”
The issue of campaign finance was brought up in a tweet from May 7, 2025. Rep. Khanna pointed out that “In 2024, dark money donations hit a record high of $1.9B.” He argued for greater public influence over political processes compared to financial contributions from wealthy individuals: “Individual Americans deserve to have more say in our democracy than billionaires’ wallets.” His call to action included a proposal for Congress to prohibit donations from PACs and lobbyists.
Ro Khanna has been an active voice in Congress since succeeding Mike Honda in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, he holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
