Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress for California’s 17th district, shared his perspectives on various issues through a series of tweets. Khanna addressed topics from housing affordability and social security to Passover wishes, reflecting on both domestic policy and community engagement.

On April 12, 2025, Khanna commented on the impact of tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump on the cost of new home construction. He stated, “7% of materials used in new home construction are imported. Trump’s tariffs will only raise the already high price tag for homebuyers. Our priority should be building more affordable housing, taking on Wall Street landlords, and lowering the costs of production.” This statement highlights Khanna’s concerns over rising construction costs and his emphasis on affordable housing solutions.

Later that day, Khanna extended his greetings for Passover, celebrating the spirit of overcoming adversity. On April 12, 2025, he tweeted, “The story of Passover is a reminder of humanity’s ability to overcome even the greatest of odds. I’m sending my wishes to all those in CA-17 and around the world celebrating tonight. Chag Sameach!” This message underscores his attention to community engagement and cultural observances.

On April 13, 2025, Khanna addressed concerning developments in the Social Security Administration. He stated, “The Social Security Administration recently announced plans to cut another 7,000 employees. Trump is dismantling a system more than 70 million Americans rely on. This is wrong, Democrats must do everything they can to protect our seniors.” This post reflects his opposition to reductions in the Social Security workforce and his commitment to safeguarding senior citizens’ benefits.

Khanna, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1976, is a University of Chicago alumnus with a BA, and later earned a JD from Yale University in 2001. Since 2017, he has been representing California’s 17th District in Congress, succeeding his predecessor, Mike Honda. Now 46, he resides in Fremont, bringing both educational and practical experience to his legislative efforts.
