Andrea Revuelta is tied for third place after the first round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, according to an April 1 report. Four Stanford Cardinal golfers are currently above the projected cut line following play at Champions Retreat in Augusta, Georgia.
The tournament is significant as it brings together top amateur women golfers from around the world. Success here can provide important exposure and experience for collegiate athletes like those from Stanford.
Revuelta, a sophomore from Spain, shot a 66 on Wednesday—matching her previous best score at Champions Retreat. She finished her round with seven birdies and was four-under on her last nine holes. Revuelta is one stroke behind leaders Maria Jose Marin of Arkansas and Soomin Oh of Korea, who both finished at seven-under par.
Stanford sophomore Meja Örtengren also had a strong start with a five-under 67. Her only bogey came on hole seventeen, but she maintained steady play throughout the rest of her round to tie for sixth place overall. Paula Martín Sampedro and Kelly Xu each shot one-under 71s, placing them in a tie for twenty-third and above the projected cut line after solid starts that included early birdies.
Megha Ganne and Nikki Oh finished their rounds at five-over par (77), putting them five strokes below the projected cut line heading into Thursday’s second round. Ganne has reached the final round in each of the past three years while Oh has yet to advance past this stage.
Most Stanford players will tee off early Thursday morning as they aim to secure spots among the top thirty competitors who will advance after two rounds.
