Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district, recently addressed a series of layoffs affecting different sectors across the United States through his Twitter account.
On May 16, 2025, Rep. Khanna reported that “Wind turbine manufacturer RWE Offshore Wind Services, LLC, laid off 73 employees in Boston, Massachusetts.” He mentioned that the company attributes these layoffs to what they perceive as detrimental actions by the Trump administration towards clean energy industries.
In another tweet posted on the same day, Rep. Khanna highlighted job losses in Houston, Texas. According to him, “60 employees were laid off from beverage manufacturer Country Pure Foods.”
Further extending his focus on workforce reductions across various industries and locations, he tweeted about Bell-Carter Foods’ operations in Corning, California. As stated by Rep. Khanna on May 16, “A total of 84 employees were fired from olive processor Bell-Carter Foods’ four factories in Corning, California.”
These tweets reflect concerns over employment stability within different sectors under current economic conditions and policy impacts.
Ro Khanna has been serving since 2017 after succeeding Mike Honda and resides in Fremont. He was born in Philadelphia and holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
