Rep. Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, recently shared updates on significant layoffs affecting various industries across the United States via his social media account.
On June 18, 2025, Khanna reported that “196 workers were laid off as RV manufacturer Winnebago Industries shut down four plants across Iowa.” This development highlights the ongoing challenges faced by manufacturing sectors in maintaining operations amidst economic pressures.
In another post on the same day, he stated that “146 winery jobs were cut in Ceres, California, with the layoffs at Bronco Wine Company.” The announcement underscores the impact of economic conditions on agricultural and production industries in California.
Additionally, Khanna noted that “47 jobs disappeared in Shelbyville, Tennessee, as Corsicana Mattress Company ceased operations.” This closure further illustrates the challenges faced by local economies reliant on specific manufacturing businesses.
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. He holds a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
