Representative Ro Khanna, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, used his social media platform to address a range of topics including Social Security, India’s Independence Day, and concerns about the American industrial base.
On August 14, 2025, Khanna marked the anniversary of Social Security by posting: “90 years ago today, FDR signed Social Security into law. Now nearly 69 million Americans rely on it. It’s time we expanded these benefits for millions of seniors and disabled people, not slash care for working folks.”
The following day, August 15, he commemorated India’s Independence Day and reflected on his family’s connection to the country’s history: “Today marks India’s 79th Independence Day. The India-US partnership will be defining in the 21st century. I am reminded of my grandfather and many freedom fighters who fought alongside Gandhi for India’s independence.”
Later that same day, Khanna commented on economic trends affecting American workers: “Deindustrialization and financialization continues to shrink the U.S. industrial base — and harm the American middle-class.”
Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. He earned a BA from the University of Chicago in 1998 and a JD from Yale University in 2001.
