Rep. Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to address several economic and policy concerns affecting American families, with a focus on childcare infrastructure, healthcare costs, and trade policy.
On August 21, 2025, Khanna highlighted challenges facing working parents in the United States: “America’s childcare infrastructure is broken and forcing 43% of parents to reduce their hours or leave the workforce because care was inaccessible. It’s past time we pass my bill to offer care for $10/day while paying employees $24/hour.”
The following day, he criticized recent changes to federal healthcare policy: “Trump’s cuts to the Affordable Care Act will cost working families $335B over the next ten years just in tax increases. Republicans’ budget bill was an attack on the working-class that will bankrupt ordinary Americans while making the ultra-wealthy richer.”
Later on August 22, Khanna addressed public sentiment regarding economic conditions and U.S. trade strategy: “Over half of Americans still rate the economy as bad. Trump’s blanket tariffs against our allies won’t create jobs and lower prices, it will make everyday life more expensive for working-class families.”
Khanna has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Mike Honda as representative for California’s 17th district. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, Khanna holds a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
