Rep. Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, has voiced concerns over current economic and healthcare policies through a series of tweets posted on May 22, 2025.
In one tweet from that day, Khanna stated “Only 50% of Americans feel optimistic about the economy, as Trump’s reckless tariff policy and trade war continue to rock consumer prices.” He advocated for a change in economic policy, suggesting that blanket tariffs against allies threaten market stability.
On the same day, Khanna highlighted the impact of Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). He tweeted that “Americans who gained Medicaid coverage through the ACA expansion were 21% less likely to die.” He emphasized that nearly 27,000 lives were saved due to this expansion and criticized Republican efforts to reverse it.
Later in the day, Khanna commented on recent legislative actions by Republicans. He noted that “While Americans slept last night, Republicans jammed through their budget bill.” He mentioned five provisions within the bill he believes negatively affect ordinary Americans.
Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. His educational background includes a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
