Rep. Ro Khanna, a Congressman representing California’s 17th district since 2017, has expressed views in a series of tweets regarding current discussions and potential legislative actions involving healthcare and manufacturing in the United States.
On April 28, 2025, Khanna highlighted his concern over talks by the Republican Party regarding a proposal to reduce Medicaid spending by $880 billion. “This week, Republicans are in talks about how to cut $880 billion in Medicaid spending. Over 70 million Americans rely on this program for healthcare. The only discussion we should be having is how to protect and expand Medicaid so every American has quality healthcare.”
The following day, Khanna voiced his support for bolstering the United States’ manufacturing capabilities, particularly through the investment in the maritime sector. On April 29, 2025, he detailed his co-sponsorship of a legislative initiative aimed at expanding U.S. maritime capacity. “To become the world’s manufacturing superpower, America must invest in its maritime industry. I’m proud to join @RepTrentKelly as a cosponsor of his SHIPS for America Act, which will expand U.S. fleets, build and repair more ships in the U.S., grow maritime employment, and”
Continuing the discourse on American manufacturing, Khanna commented on the testimony of three Republican witnesses related to manufacturing policies in the United States. On April 29, 2025, he noted a significant omission in their discussion. “Three Republican witnesses on what it takes to build manufacturing in America didn’t mention tariffs once in their testimony. Yet, all three are sadly afraid to point out the clear flaws in Trump’s tariff-only policy.”
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. He earned his BA from the University of Chicago in 1998 and a JD from Yale University in 2001.
