Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district, has been vocal on various issues through his social media presence. His recent tweets address concerns about political reform, corporate financial practices, and upcoming discussions on political strategies.
On May 19, 2025, Rep. Khanna questioned the lack of action against “Big Money” contributions in politics despite a significant portion of American voters seeing it as a threat to democracy. He stated: “If 82% of American voters view the influence of money in politics as a threat to democracy, why haven’t we limited Big Money contributions? Let’s listen to Americans and pass my Political Reform Plan to ban PAC and lobbyists’ donations.”
The following day, May 20, he highlighted the issue of high interest rates on retail credit cards that contribute significantly to major retailers’ profits. Khanna asserted: “The average retail credit card’s interest rate is over 30% and accounts for roughly 8% of the 50 biggest retailers’ gross profits. These big corporations are fleecing Americans. It’s time to cap interest rates at 10%.”
Later that day, he invited followers to join an Instagram Live session scheduled for May 22 with comedian Trae Crowder to discuss strategies against policies from the Trump administration. He announced: “Join me this Thursday, May 22, at 5:30 PM ET on Instagram Live with @traecrowder to discuss the Trump administration and what Democrats can do to fight back.”
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and has represented California’s 17th District since replacing Mike Honda in 2017. A graduate of the University of Chicago and Yale University Law School, he resides in Fremont.
