Rep. Ro Khanna, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 17th district since 2017, has recently shared his views on pressing national issues through social media posts. The topics he addressed include healthcare affordability, the housing crisis, and deficit reduction.
On June 9, 2025, Rep. Khanna highlighted the disparity between America’s wealth and its citizens’ access to basic healthcare. He stated that “America is the wealthiest country in the world, yet the majority of adults are still not able to afford basic healthcare.” He advocated for collaborative efforts with Senator Bernie Sanders to pass Medicare for All.
Later that day, Khanna addressed the impact of former President Trump’s trade policies on housing costs. He noted that “on top of home prices more than doubling since 2019, Trump’s tariff trade war will increase the cost of home building.” To mitigate these challenges, he urged legislative action such as his proposed Stop Wall Street Landlords Act to curb private equity’s influence in real estate.
On June 10, 2025, Rep. Khanna announced his Progressive Deficit Reduction Plan aimed at significantly reducing deficits by over $12 trillion. In this plan, he calls for military modernization and other fiscal measures. As stated in his post: “Every member should have a calculator & show their plan.” His proposal includes eliminating Medicare Advantage upcoding and ending fossil fuel subsidies.
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. He holds a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
