Representative Ro Khanna, who serves California’s 17th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on September 12, 2025, highlighting recent plant closures and job losses across several states.
Khanna reported that “Blue Diamond Growers is in the first of three phases shutting down its Sacramento, California, almond processing plant, a closure that will leave 632 workers without jobs over the next 18 months.” (September 12, 2025)
He also noted another significant closure: “International Paper is closing its Marion, Ohio, container plant, permanently eliminating 107 jobs.” (September 12, 2025)
In addition to these closures, Khanna addressed challenges facing wood products manufacturers. He stated: “Wood products manufacturer Woodgrain is closing its sawmill in Pilot Rock, Oregon, citing market pressures, and 62 workers will lose their jobs. Trump’s tariffs on Canadian lumber is driving up prices for manufacturers, and the middle class is paying the price.” (September 12, 2025)
Ro Khanna has served as a member of Congress since replacing Mike Honda in California’s 17th district in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, Khanna holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
