Megha Ganne secured the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur title at Bandon Dunes, becoming the sixth golfer from Stanford to win this championship and only the second since 1984. Ganne defeated Brooke Biermann of Michigan State with a 4&3 victory in the match play finals.
Ganne maintained her lead throughout the final, extending it to four holes by the start of the afternoon session. In the first 18 holes, she won two of the opening three holes but was tied by Biermann through six. The match remained even until Ganne won three consecutive holes starting at the 12th, taking a 3up advantage into halftime.
Entering match play as the No. 11 seed, Ganne faced strong competition, defeating opponents whose average World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) was 88.2. Her semifinal comeback against Ella Scaysbrook was notable; after trailing by four through eleven holes, Ganne tied the match on the seventeenth and won in nineteen holes.
Ganne’s victory is part of a successful summer for Stanford women’s golf. Earlier in the season, Paula Martín Sampedro claimed both The 122nd Women’s Amateur and European Ladies’ Amateur championships. This marks only the second time in program history that Stanford golfers have won both The Women’s Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur titles in one summer—the previous occurrence was in 2020 when Aline Krauter and Rose Zhang each earned those honors.
The program now counts six U.S. Women’s Amateur champions: Anne Quast Sander (1958, 1961, 1963), Joanne Pacillo (1983), Rose Zhang (2020), and Megha Ganne (2025).
