Maia Jones of Santa Clara University’s women’s basketball team has been named the West Coast Conference (WCC) Player of the Week. This marks the second consecutive week a player from Santa Clara has received this recognition.
Jones played a key role in leading her team to two victories last week. She averaged 24 points per game, along with 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. Jones also made eight three-pointers, shooting 42.1 percent from beyond the arc.
In a game against San Francisco, Jones scored 25 points, including three three-pointers and went 10-for-12 at the free throw line, helping secure a 77-67 win for Santa Clara. Later in the week, she contributed 23 points and matched her career high with five three-pointers in a victory over Washington State, where Santa Clara won 98-92 in Pullman.
This honor follows recent WCC Player of the Week awards earned by Ashley Hawkins last week and Sophie Glancey on December 15, both also from Santa Clara.
Santa Clara will return to their home court on Thursday to face Portland at 6 p.m.
