Louisville defeated Stanford 10-0 in a seven-inning baseball game on April 11, evening their three-game series.
The outcome is significant as it resets the competition between the two teams, setting up a decisive third game. Louisville’s strong pitching and offense proved decisive in the matchup.
Ethan Eberle, Louisville’s left-handed pitcher, threw six scoreless innings and struck out seven batters. He earned his third win of the season by holding Stanford to nine singles and escaping several scoring threats. Despite collecting nine hits and batting .321 for the game, Stanford failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position, going hitless in nine such opportunities and leaving eleven men on base.
Stanford had a chance to avoid a run-rule loss in the seventh inning after loading the bases with no outs against reliever Jake Schweitzer. However, Rashad Hayes struck out looking before JJ Moran grounded into a double play that ended both the inning and the game.
Louisville’s offense rebounded from being limited to two runs in their previous loss by producing ten runs on ten hits. The Cardinals scored four runs off Stanford starter Sam Garewal in the first inning alone. Kade Elam contributed his fourth home run of the season with a three-run shot in the third inning. RBI doubles from Bayram Hot and Lucas Moore highlighted another three-run frame for Louisville; Moore finished with four RBIs overall.
Garewal took his second loss of the year after giving up seven runs over three innings pitched for Stanford. The teams will play again Sunday at 1 p.m., when they meet for their final contest of this series.
