Santa Clara University softball player Leiora Davidson was named West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week on Mar. 30, sharing the honor with Hannah Ferguson of Saint Mary’s.
Davidson’s recognition comes after a strong performance at the plate and in the field over four games. She went 5-for-11 with two home runs and six runs batted in, while remaining error-free on defense across 37 total chances.
In the conference opening series against Loyola Marymount University, Davidson helped Santa Clara win two out of three games. She collected two hits during Friday’s opening game, which ended in a 5-2 victory for the Broncos. On Saturday, she had what was described as a career day by going 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs in a close 10-9 win that clinched the series for Santa Clara.
During that game, Davidson hit a solo home run to tie the score at two apiece, delivered a two-RBI single to put her team ahead, and later hit another three-run homer to extend their lead. Her defensive play included making 35 putouts and recording two assists without an error or missed opportunity for a double play.
Davidson is now the third Bronco this season to earn weekly conference recognition but is noted as being the first from her team to be named Player of the Week. Earlier this month, Ellison Schroeder and Cari Ferguson received back-to-back Pitcher of the Week honors from the conference.
The Broncos are scheduled to begin their West Coast Conference home opener with a three-game series against Oregon State starting Thursday.
