Representative Ro Khanna, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th District since 2017, recently shared updates regarding layoffs and plant closures affecting workers across several states. The tweets highlight significant job losses in Minnesota, Alabama, California, and Illinois.
On July 12, 2025, Khanna reported that “Medical device manufacturer, Teleflex, cut 101 jobs in its Maple Grove, Minnesota facility.”
In another post on the same day, he stated that “112 workers were hit by the shut down of the Berry Global Inc. plastics manufacturing plant in Lanett, Alabama.”
Additionally, Khanna noted that “Thirty-six workers were left without jobs when beverage packer Primo Brands permanently closed five manufacturing plants and administered layoffs at three others throughout California and Illinois.” (July 12, 2025).
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA in 1998 and earned his JD from Yale University in 2001.
