Rep. Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th district in the U.S. Congress, reported a series of plant closures and layoffs affecting hundreds of workers across the United States in posts dated August 8, 2025.
On that day, Khanna stated, “Aerospace and defense manufacturer, L&T Precision, cut 81 jobs while shutting down operations at its Poway, California, facility.” In another post on the same date, he wrote: “Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling is closing its Salinas, California, bottling facility that has operated since 1955, letting go of 81 workers in the process.” He also highlighted layoffs outside his home state: “274 People in the 3000-person town of Momence, Illinois, lost their jobs when Momence Packing Company closed its meatpacking plant.”
These statements underscore ongoing job losses tied to longstanding businesses ceasing operations. The Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling facility had been a presence in Salinas for seventy years before its closure was announced.
Ro Khanna has represented California’s 17th district since replacing Mike Honda in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and now residing in Fremont, Khanna holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
