Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, recently shared updates on closures affecting American workers through his social media account. The series of tweets highlight the impact of economic decisions on employment in various regions.
On July 4, 2025, Khanna tweeted about the closure of Bicycle Corporation of America’s manufacturing facility in Manning, South Carolina. He noted that this decision resulted in 64 workers losing their jobs. According to Khanna’s tweet, “The company stated that due to high tariffs on China-made components and frames, it could no longer profitably assemble bicycles.”
In another post from the same day, Khanna mentioned the shutdown of a nearly century-old Conagra Brands plant in Fennville, Michigan. As per his tweet, “Seventy-five workers were left without a job when food manufacturer Conagra Brands closed its nearly 100-year old plant.”
Additionally, Khanna reported on the closure of Primo Brands’ facility in Milpitas, California. This move led to layoffs for 38 employees as stated in his tweet.
