Rep. Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, recently shared updates on significant job cuts in various industries across the United States through his social media platform.
On June 6, 2025, Rep. Khanna reported that “In Simi Valley, California, window and door producer Milgard Manufacturing cut 397 jobs after closing its factory.” This closure has affected numerous workers and their families in the area.
Additionally, he highlighted another major layoff on the same day by stating that “The largest layoff was in Amana, Iowa, when 651 workers were laid off from refrigerator manufacturer Whirlpool.” This incident marks a significant impact on employment within the region.
Furthermore, Rep. Khanna noted that “Automotive manufacturer MetoKote Corporation closed its Greenville, South Carolina, plant, resulting in 113 jobs cut.” The closure adds to the list of recent industrial shutdowns affecting local economies.
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA and earned his JD from Yale University. His tenure in Congress began after replacing Mike Honda in 2017.
