Rep. Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, recently shared updates on job losses in various states through his social media account.
On July 4, 2025, Rep. Khanna reported that “In Elgin, Illinois, 33 workers lost their jobs when snack food manufacturer TH Foods closed their facility.” This closure affected the local workforce and community dependent on the manufacturing plant.
In another post from the same day, Khanna highlighted that “Ninety-three workers in Mason City, Iowa, were left without a job when Forte Openings Solutions ceased its door manufacturing operations.” The cessation of operations at this facility marked a significant employment shift for those involved.
Further emphasizing job losses across different regions, Khanna noted that “Two hundred workers lost their jobs when Smurfit Westrock Facility closed its paper and packaging facility in Forney, Texas.” The closure of this facility represents a substantial impact on the workforce within Forney.
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and resides in Fremont. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA in 1998 and earned his JD from Yale University in 2001.
