Rep. Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, has shared updates on recent job losses due to factory closures and layoffs across the United States. Born in Philadelphia in 1976, Khanna currently resides in Fremont and holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
On May 9, 2025, Rep. Khanna reported that “In Blackduck, Minnesota, 116 people lost their jobs when curtain and blind producer The Shade Store started administering company wide layoffs.”
He further noted on the same day that “The largest closure was in Dolton, Illinois, where the closing of glass container producer Ardagh Class resulted in 316 people losing their jobs.”
Khanna highlighted the broader impact of these events by stating that “As deindustrialization policy persists, factories continue to close across the country, hollowing out communities. This week five factories closed and one administered mass layoffs, resulting in 732 employees losing their jobs.”
