Rep. Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, recently shared updates on workforce reductions in various industries via social media.
On June 6, 2025, Rep. Khanna reported that “Systems engineer manufacturer Axient laid off 47 workers in Greenbelt, Maryland.” This development highlights the challenges faced by employees in the engineering sector.
In another post from the same date, he noted that “Furniture maker Olon Industries cut 53 jobs after closing its Lexington, North Carolina, plant.” The closure signifies significant impacts on local employment within the furniture manufacturing industry.
Additionally, Rep. Khanna mentioned that “In Mohnton, Pennsylvania, snack manufacturer Pladis closed and cut 55 jobs.” This closure reflects ongoing difficulties within the food manufacturing sector.
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and resides in Fremont. He holds a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
