Four members of the Santa Clara University women’s basketball team were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team for their academic achievements, according to an April 13 announcement. The honorees are Kylee Fox, Ashley Hawkins, Maia Jones, and Ava Schmidt.
Jones and Hawkins have also been selected as finalists for the CSC Academic All-America team. The final selections for first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on April 15.
Hawkins was recognized as a First Team All-West Coast Conference (WCC) player while starting all 34 games this season. She averaged 13.7 points per game and 6.1 assists per game, ranking tenth nationally with 209 assists, eleventh in assists per game, and thirteenth in assist-to-turnover ratio. Hawkins was named WCC Player of the Week on January 5 after recording a double-double against Gonzaga with no turnovers. She holds a grade point average of 3.62 while pursuing a graduate degree in marketing.
Jones also earned First Team All-WCC honors after leading her team with an average of 15 points per game across all starts this season. She made 67 three-pointers and contributed an average of 4.6 rebounds per game. On January 12, Jones was named WCC Player of the Week after averaging twenty-four points over two wins and making eight three-pointers at a forty-two percent shooting rate from beyond the arc that week. Jones has a GPA of 3.78 as a communication major.
Schmidt received honorable mention recognition from the WCC while starting thirty-three games this season, averaging twelve point four points and five rebounds per game while leading her team with seventy-three three-pointers made and seventy-three blocks—ranking twelfth nationally in blocks per game at two point two—and tying for second most blocks in program history for one season. Schmidt maintains a GPA of three point eighty-one as a marketing major.
Fox started every game this year as well, averaging nine point two points along with four point six rebounds per contest and making fifty-two three-point shots during the season; she has achieved a GPA of three point seventy-five while majoring in psychology.
