Florida State defeated Santa Clara softball 11-3 in a nonconference game on Apr. 8, extending their win streak to 25 games. The match took place Wednesday night and saw Florida State collect a total of 12 hits.
The result is significant as it highlights the strong performance by Florida State, currently ranked No. 9, and marks another win in their ongoing streak. For Santa Clara, the loss brings their season record to an even split at 19 wins and 19 losses.
In the first inning, Florida State sent eleven batters to the plate against Broncos starter Hazyl Gray. The top four Seminoles hitters—Isa Torres, Jaysoni Beachum, Marin Heller, and Ashtyn Danley—combined for nine hits and eight runs batted in during the game. Torres went four-for-four at bat with three runs scored and two runs batted in.
Florida State added another run in the fourth inning on a double by Beachum and scored three more times in the sixth inning. Although Florida State had only committed fourteen errors all season prior to this game, they were charged with three errors against Santa Clara. One error—a dropped fly ball by center fielder Kennedy Harp—led to a Broncos run in the third inning.
Santa Clara managed two runs in the bottom of the sixth after Robynn Balmediano hit a double but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple, which ended the game under run-rule conditions. Jazzy Francik pitched two scoreless innings for her fifteenth win of the season while Gray’s record fell to zero wins and four losses.
Santa Clara will next host San Diego for a three-game West Coast Conference series starting Friday.
