Santa Clara University softball player Ellison Schroeder was named West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 9 after securing two wins over the weekend.
Schroeder, a freshman, delivered a complete game against San José State on Saturday and earned a win in relief against Fresno State on Sunday. Her performance highlights her growing impact on the team and continues a streak of recognition for Santa Clara pitchers.
In Saturday’s matchup with San José State, Schroeder held opponents hitless through more than four innings and finished with four hits allowed, one run, two walks, and three strikeouts as Santa Clara won 4-1. She managed to escape a bases-loaded situation in the sixth inning by inducing a double play that limited the damage to just one run.
On Sunday versus Fresno State, Schroeder entered in relief during the fifth inning with the score tied and runners in scoring position. She again produced a double play to end the threat and allowed only one hit over nearly three innings pitched. Robynn Balmediano drove in what became the game-winning run for Santa Clara in their 2-1 victory.
Over both games, Schroeder pitched 9 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, one run, two walks, and recording five strikeouts for the week. For the season so far, she holds a 4-5 record with one save and an earned run average of 2.89.
This marks the second consecutive week that a Santa Clara player has received WCC Pitcher of the Week honors; Cari Ferguson was recognized last week. The Broncos are scheduled to host Montana for a three-game series this coming weekend.
