The Santa Clara University beach volleyball team announced on Mar. 9 that Ciara Cantlen and Alexandra Urbina were named the West Coast Conference Pair of the Week following their performance at the Long Beach State Invitational.

This recognition comes after Cantlen and Urbina secured two victories over nationally ranked opponents during last weekend’s tournament. The pair ended Friday with a straight-set win against UAB’s Olivia Chychrun and Ava Grace Knott, who represented a team ranked No. 24 in the TruVolley College Beach Volleyball rankings. On Saturday, they followed up with a three-set victory over Stetson’s Zoe Flueckiger and Anniina Muukka, whose team was ranked No. 14.

Cantlen and Urbina have compiled a 4-3 record as partners this season, including an undefeated mark at the No. 3 spot and additional matches at No. 4 pairs. Individually, Cantlen holds an 8-4 record overall, while Urbina stands at 7-5 for the season.

The Broncos will continue their season by competing in Cal Poly’s Mustang Roundup in San Luis Obispo starting Friday.

Their recent achievements highlight both players’ contributions to Santa Clara University’s beach volleyball program as they prepare for upcoming competition.
