Stanford freshman Ana Bărbosu has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Newcomer of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference on Tuesday. This honor follows her performance in Denver, where she competed in NCAA gymnastics for the first time.
Bărbosu won the all-around competition with a score of 39.400 and received scores of 9.800 or higher on all four events. Her routine included a 9.900 on beam, and she finished among the top four in five different categories during the meet. According to Stanford Athletics, this is the best debut by a first-year Stanford gymnast in an all-around competition since at least 2000.
She is also noted as being the only ACC all-around gymnast so far this season to place within the top four across all events.
Stanford will conclude its two-week road trip with a meet against UNC at Carmichael Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT. This event marks their first ACC matchup of 2026 and will be broadcast on ACC Network with Jack Kizer and Trinity Thomas providing commentary.
