Santa Clara University has announced the appointment of Alan Guillou as the men’s basketball director of operations. Guillou, originally from Paris, France, returns to the Broncos staff in this new capacity after previously serving as Assistant Director, Analytics and Player Personnel. His involvement with Santa Clara began in the 2022-23 season when he joined as a graduate assistant while pursuing his Master’s in Educational Leadership, which he completed in June 2024.
Guillou steps into the director of operations role following Will Burkett’s recent promotion to assistant coach earlier this summer. In his previous role, Guillou focused on scouting and analytical breakdowns for the team.
Before joining Santa Clara, Guillou worked independently as a scout and served as a volunteer video coordinator for JDA Dijon’s French Division U21 Team during the 2021-22 season. That year, JDA Dijon finished third in their league standings. Guillou holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Paris-Sorbonne University and earned his Master’s degree in political science in 2020. While studying, he contributed to two French basketball websites—Dunkhebdo and Envergure—as both a feature writer and podcast host over six years.
Guillou played an important role in recruiting international talent to Santa Clara. He helped bring Adama-Alpha Bal—a future two-time All-WCC performer—from Le Mans, France, and assisted with identifying current freshman Noah Badibanga. He continues to support Santa Clara’s international recruiting efforts.
Head coach Herb Sendek said of his staff: “Guillou is the final member of head coach Herb Sendek’s staff, joining associate head coaches Jason Ludwig and Ryan Madry, and assistant coaches Will Burkett, Jackson Gion and Mitch Smith.” Sendek recently signed a five-year contract extension and will begin his tenth season leading the program for the 2025-26 campaign.
